“Kindness, Care and Knowledge”
Founded in 1988 by Rosemary Kind, The Mare and Foal Sanctuary aims not just to rescue neglected, unwanted or abused horses and ponies but to rehabilitate, retrain and, where possible, rehome them in loving, knowledgeable environments.
The Sanctuary, which is based in South Devon, currently cares for around 300 horses and ponies, both at its stables and in loving loan homes across the south west of England.
In 2010, the charity became a member of NEWC (the National Equine Welfare Council), with whom it works closely to improve equine welfare in the UK. The Sanctuary also works with the public and the media in order to raise awareness and educate with regards to equine welfare issues.
